Captain (Ν) Ioannis ASTERIOU was born in Atalanti, Greece in 1968.

He graduated from the Hellenic Naval Academy in 1992.

During his sea duty assignments, he served at several posts including Navigation Officer, Executive Officer and CO.

His command tours include Commanding Officer of Patrol Boat HS NIKIFOROS and Frigate HS KANARIS.

During his shore and staff assignments, he served at various posts within the Fleet Command HQ, Hellenic Navy General Staff and the Hellenic National Defense Staff. He has also served as a staff officer in Doctrine and Standardization Branch of the Military Police Centre of Excellence in Poland.

He has been awarded with all the medals, decorations and commendations stipulated for an officer of his rank and seniority.

He is married and has two daughters.
