2026, JUNE 21 WORLD HYDROGRAPHY DAY
“Transforming how ocean data is shared”

The Hydrographic Service of the Hellenic Navy (NHN), harmonizes with the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) of which it is a founding member and celebrates World Hydrographic Day.
In the following video, one of the directors of the IHO, Vice Admiral Luigi Sinapi, delivers a relevant message
The proposed topic marks the new era in the availability of marine data, with the adoption of services based on the S-100 standard and in particular S-101 for nautical charts in digital format and S-102 for bathymetric imaging, and comes in full alignment with the acceptance by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) of the ECDIS S-100 as the regular means of navigation in international shipping. At the same time, it emphasizes the ongoing collaboration with other collaborating bodies such as IALA and WMO to integrate their services into the S-100 ecosystem.
In the context of the celebration of World Hydrography Day, the Hellenic Hydrographic Service organized a series of events, which took place in Tolo, Argolida, and aimed at:
– Promoting the sciences of Hydrography and Oceanography in the maritime field.
– Introducing young children to hydrographic data, hydrographic operations and the hydrographic ship, as well as their composition and representation on a nautical chart.
– Connecting the maritime, scientific and academic fields, as emerged from relevant speeches
– Presenting modern hydrographic systems and equipment
– Awarding former executives of the Hellenic Hydrographic Service
