The Hellenic Navy Hydrographic Service (HNHS) announce that the first 96 official Greek Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs), based on the new S-101 standard of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO), are available through the International Centre for Electronic Navigational Charts (IC-ENC).
This development is a major milestone for the HNHS and the Hellenic Navy, as it places our country at the forefront of the transition to the new IHO S-101 standard, which will form the basis of the next generation of Digital Cartography.
The production and certification of the Greek ENCs S-101 attests:
- the high level of technical expertise of the HNHS staff,
- the continuous commitment to maritime safety and international interoperability, and
- Greece’s consistent fulfilment of its obligations as a Member State of the IHO.
The HNHS will continue at a steady pace the development and updating of S-100 based products, in parallel with the S-57 products, with the aim of fully supporting navigation and meeting the future operational requirements of the international maritime community.
