The Hellenic Navy Hydrographic Service participated in the Scientific Conference held in Kalamata to mark the 40th anniversary of the devastating 1986 Kalamata earthquake, under the meaningful theme “Memory, Science and Resilience – 31 Seconds in 1986.”
During the conference, we had the opportunity to highlight the contribution of modern Hydrography to the understanding of the marine and coastal environment, to natural hazard assessment, and more broadly to strengthening the resilience of coastal communities.
Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of accurate seabed knowledge, the use of modern hydrographic data and technologies, and the potential development of Digital Twins of critical coastal and maritime areas as valuable tools for scientific analysis, preparedness and decision support.
The Hellenic Navy Hydrographic Service remains committed to strengthening its cooperation with universities, research institutions, scientific organizations and local authorities, sharing its knowledge, experience and capabilities in support of scientific research and, ultimately, for the benefit of society.
Because scientific knowledge becomes even more valuable when it is shared, combined and transformed into practical benefit for people and communities.
Observe. Understand. Share. Prepare. Protect.
Know the Seabed. Understand the Risk. Build Resilience.
